Young Boss
The members of your team are older than you are. They seem to have more experience than you do and sometimes know more. What can you do?
- Understand that you need to learn from the members of your team.
- Win over their trust by asking, finding out and appreciating the kind of help that they give you.
- Keep the flow of communication easy.
- If the older people in your team are a little condescending, don't let it upset you.
- Respect the experience of the older people. If you feel that their ideas don't fit in with yours, don't brush them aside rudely.
- Be eager to learn from the older colleagues by asking questions and showing that you respect their inputs.
- When there are ego clashes, do not put your foot down by saying that you are the boss. This can be very offensive, considering your age.
- Handle the age factor with care and you will find that you and your team can work together harmoniously.
